Amsterdam Travel Diary + some Tips

In my last post, I already mentioned, that I spend a couple of days with my family in the amazing city of Amsterdam. For ages London has always been my favorite city (even though I´ve been to New York ) but I guess Amsterdam took London´s place now. I simply fell in love with the city and its charme after just a couple of minutes and I cannot wait to go back here. But how do you always say ? Pictures can speak more than a thousand words.

We arrived in Amsterdam by train and immediately brought our luggage to the hotel which was about 10 minutes by foot away from Amsterdam Centraal. Then we explored the city by foot which was awesome. I really recommend walking through Amsterdam, not just because every corner is picturesque but most of the sights are not far away from each other. Going by bike is a really popular method as well, and for 7,50€ you can get a 24 hours ticket to use Tram, Metro etc.

In my opinion what Amsterdam makes so special is the fact that when walking through the city, you wouldn´t think you´re in a big city because in the centrum of Amsterdam there are no sky scrapers and all the streets are kept like the one above.

Amsterdam is not just a beautiful city but also a shopping paradise. You can get everything you want here, it just depends on where you go . When you prefer high street labels like Bershka, Zara, Forever 21, River Island etc, I recommend going to Kalverstraat ( but you have to expect, that several other people had the same idea, so it´s really crowded). In case you prefer smaller shops with all different kinds of brands the Jordaan Quarter is the place to go. The shops are soo cute and they have super adorable clothes that not everybody has. As well, the Niewe Straatjes are great as well.

Above you can see the " Dam ". It is close to the Anne Frank Huis ( about 10 minutes walk ). When you want to go inside the Anne Frank Huis you have to know that there is always a huge line waiting outside. When you come at 18:30,  it´s the best time because you don´t need to wait 2 hours to go in. We visited the museum at 7o´clock in the evening and stood in the line for about 45 minutes.

Unfortunately at the time we were in Amsterdam it was quite cold, so we decided not to do a Canal Tour. But in summer I imagine it being really nice driving through the canals on a sunny afternoon, right ?

Oh and in case there is still some space in your luggage, go to the Bloomenmarkt to buy some pretty flowers !
I hope you enjoyed this post and those of you who´ve already been to Amsterdam let me know what you think about the city .

xx Julia
